How can someone tell you they love you and want to be with you one day and the next day say sorry it's over?

I just don't understand how you can be with someone and have them tell you how important you are in their life and how it just wouldn't be the same without you in it. How you have brought happiness and joy back into their life and brought them back to life and then, sorry, I can't do this anymore. You want more than I can give. Honesty, Communication and Love, those are the only things I asked for. I didn't ask for the rest of his life. I know that "forever" does not exhist. How do you make love to someone one day telling them how important they are and be gone the next. Was that ever really love?
